轉(zhuǎn)轍機(jī)是指用以可靠地轉(zhuǎn)換道岔位置，改變道岔開(kāi)通方向，鎖閉道岔尖軌，反映道岔位置的重要的信號(hào)基礎(chǔ)設(shè)備，它可以很好地保證行車安全，提高運(yùn)輸效率，改善行車人員的勞動(dòng)強(qiáng)度。
作用
(1)轉(zhuǎn)換道岔的位置，根據(jù)需要轉(zhuǎn)換至定位或反位；
(2)道岔轉(zhuǎn)至所需位置且密貼后，實(shí)現(xiàn)鎖閉，防止外力轉(zhuǎn)換道岔；
(3)正確地反映道岔的實(shí)際位置，道岔的尖軌密貼于基本軌后，給出相應(yīng)的表示；
(4)道岔被擠或因故處于“四開(kāi)"（兩側(cè)尖軌均不密貼）位置時(shí)，及時(shí)給出報(bào)警及表示。
